Ladies and gentlemen, boys, girls, squirrels and Bruce Jenners, welcome to Kicks To Midnight, where you can find all the latest news on upcoming kicks that you need to be on the look out for.
A heads up for readers, as with many things in life, not all of these deadlines are set in stone, and release dates can and frequently do change.
April is always a big month for sneakers, the big companies know that everyone is getting their tax money back and it is burning a hole in their pocket.
Nike Lunar Force 1 G - $140
Classic street wear is coming to the country club. This is your typical AF1 with the addition of the lunarlon midsole and some obvious golf traction. No, this isn't an April Fools Joke, but they are right in time for The Masters next weekend.
Air Jordan XII "Wings" - $225
Jordan Brand is giving us a premium version of the ever popular Jordan XII. The "Wings" first surfaced on social media pages thanks to Macklemore a few months back, and the hype began immediately. Limited to only 12,000 pairs and each individually numbered, they are probably going to be one of the most coveted pairs of sneakers to release this year. Hidden under the black painted leather, there is a black/gold wing design that will have sneaker heads scuffing up their shoes in no time. With gold details, a special designed insole and unique heel tab, this shoe has it all. Rumored to only be available via Nike's SNKRS raffle at 10 AM, that will be your only way to cop, so hope your entry gets picked.
Jordan XII "French Blue" - $190
Yes, Jordan fans, we are getting two XIIs on the same day. This model has been in hiding in the past few years, but the XII is coming strong this year. In the past, Kobe has worn them to go with retro Lakers uniforms, and recently John Wall wore a fresh pair in the NBA All-Star game. Look for them to hit Nike.com and major retailers.
Air Jordan 2 Low - $160
No, this is not a typo. Yes, we are getting three pairs of Jordans on the same day. The all red sneaker trend has not yet run its course, so here we are waking up early for yet another pair. These will more than likely be the easiest pair of Js of the day, so if you don't care which one you get, this should be the one you aim for. Look for them to drop on Nike.com and at most major retailers.
April 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th and 13th
Nike Kobe Fade To Black Pack Kobe 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 - $200
Kobe Bryant is in the midst of his farewell tour, and other NBA franchises and companies are showering him with gifts on the way out. Nike has decided to create another pack in his honor, releasing 1 of each model in colorways that continuously fade to black as his season and career come to an end. Only available online via Nike's SNKRS raffle, every pair of these will be difficult to obtain, and getting the full set would be nearly impossible. The 9 and 10 will be featured on the 11th, and all other releases will have their own day. The first 4 shoes in the set has had fans and sneakerheads crossing fingers and wearing their lucky underwear hoping their name gets picked on almost a daily basis. If you are a big Kobe fan or a collector of Kobe sneakers, best of luck to you on the upcoming raffles.
Jordan 4 Premium - $400
Jordan Brand has given other models the premium treatment and now they have turned to the Jordan IV. With croc embossed leather and faux pony hair, they sure seemed to have reached their goal of creating a luxurious pair of sneakers. The Jordan 1 Pinnacle has sold well in the past, but I have a hard time seeing the same success with this pair. If interested, be sure to check for them on Nike.com and select Jordan Brand retailers.
Jordan 17+ "Copper" - $250
Once upon a time, the greatest basketball player who ever lived wore this shoes as he dominated the league on the Washington Wizards. Ok, part of that was true... Michael Jordan did dominate the league (on the Bulls) and he did wear these shoes (on the Wizards). If you're looking for a little nostalgia, here is your chance to pick up one of the final shoes Jordan wore as his career came to an end. If you do go after these, they will come with that hefty $250 price tag. Look for them to drop on Nike.com and at most major retailers.
High Snobiety x Adidas Ultra Boost - $180
The Adidas Ultra Boost has been one of the hottest runners over the past year. Combining the very comfortable Boost technology with even the most basic of colorways, the model typically sells out within hours. When Adidas does collaborations with the model, they normally sell out in minutes. If you're a fan of runners, or are just looking for something casual for the summer, you should probably keep these on your radar. Look for them on Adidas.com and select Adidas Consortium retailers.
Adidas NMD R1 Primeknit "Camo Pack" - $160
Not only does Adidas have the Ultra Boost to rely on for sales, but they also have another runner, the NMD to produce big numbers. Using the same boost technology, with a bit more of a modern look to them, the NMD has been a big seller as of late as well. They may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if they're up your alley, be quick because they will go fast. Look for them on Adidas.com and at select Adidas retailers.
Air Jordan 9 Low "Black/Red" - $170
Almost any Jordan shoe in the classic "Bred" colorway is a hit. This may be testing that statement. I understand that over time things evolve, but some things should just be left in its original form. Of all the Jordans releasing this year, these will be one of the easier pairs for me to pass on. While I like the normal Jordan 9, to me the low just looks bulky, yet at the same time incomplete. Look for them to release on Nike.com and most major retailers.
Nike Air Foamposite Pro "University Red" - $230
Don't worry fans of the Foamposite, Nike hasn't forgotten about you. Nike has brought back this pair from 2002 and is hoping to cash in on an old favorite. Due to the popularity of Foams in the Baltimore area, you can expect most retailers to have them locally. The rest of the country won't receive the same love or quantities that you would see in malls around the Baltimore beltway. Look for them to release on Nike.com and at most major retailers.
Thankfully 2016 has brought us a normal spring, and it appears Adidas intends on challenging Nike as the company that makes the hottest sneakers. While Nike certainly has the tradition, Adidas is not giving up and a little competition should be beneficial for them as well as the consumers.
