I finally watched Kenny Omega's match from Wrestle Kingdom 11. It was awesome. Beyond awesome. It was the first Kenny Omega match I've ever seen and it's easily one of the best wrestling matches I've ever watched. With internet rumors flying about the wrestler's next career move, the decision is simple. Head to the WWE and become a legend.
I've been a wrestling fan for about 25 years. Practically my entire life. During that time anyone worthwhile in the wrestling industry has come through the WWE at some point. It's the pinnacle of the business. Everyone reading this wants to be the best at what they do, no matter what profession they're in. Kenny Omega, however, recently said the following:
"I would rather be the legend that never stepped foot in WWE but was better than every single one of them and did something that none of those guys could do in their prime or could ever do if they left WWE and tried."
This statement really rubs me the wrong way. Imagine Mike Trout's goal to be a legend in beer league softball. It would never happen. Athletes want to compete at the highest level and I have to believe Omega deep down feels the same way. If not he's insane. You can put on five-star matches in Japan all you want but if you never step foot in the WWE you will never be remembered globally.
AJ Styles is the perfect example. Probably the best professional wrestler in the world, Styles didn't sign with the WWE until 2016. Until then he had accomplished quite a bit during his 18-year career but if he would have never signed with Vince McMahon his legacy would be incomplete. Millions of wrestling fans would have never seen his greatness. A year later he's the WWE champ and completed the best year any rookie has ever had with the company.
Will the WWE survive without Kenny Omega? Of course. They have the deepest roster of athletes in years and a thriving product. Will Kenny Omega survive without the WWE? Of course as well. He's one of the most talented wrestlers in the world and the Indy's and Japan are allowing guys to make a very comfortable living at the moment. Still, The Cleaner needs to bring his talents stateside ASAP. Imagine the matches he could have with Styles, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, etc. The options are endless. Hopefully Kenny Omega arrives in the WWE sooner than later. If he does there is no doubt in my mind he will be the biggest name in the business in 12 months. Do the right thing Kenny. You won't regret it.
